What this scheme actually is

NIDHI-CoE is the top of the DST incubation pyramid. It takes incubators with at least five years of track record and funds them to build design and prototype development centres, validation labs, patent facilitation centres and TBI facilities for a minimum of 100 startups, plus an accelerator for 10 high-potential ones. For founders, a CoE is simply the best-equipped incubator you can get into.

What the scheme sets out to do

Empower mature incubators to create an enabling environment for technology startups
Strengthen existing STEP/TBI capacity to transfer innovations into marketable products and high-growth companies
Concentrate resources in DST's identified priority areas

Who can apply

Existing incubator with at least 5 years of incubation experience
Non-academic applicants must be a legal entity registered in India promoting research, innovation and entrepreneurship
Financial support is extended to a not-for-profit society, trust or Section 8 company
The host institution should have been in existence for at least 8 years, except for entities created by Central or State governments

What you get

Enhanced support of a maximum of ₹50 crore over 5 years
Public-funded institutions eligible for 100% support including building
Private institutions eligible for recurring support of ₹20 crore and up to ₹1 crore for equipment
Design and prototype development, validation centres, patent facilitation centres, TBI facilities for 100+ startups and an accelerator for 10 high-potential startups

How to apply, step by step

  1. 1

    For founders: target CoE incubators

A NIDHI-CoE has validation labs, patent facilitation and an in-house accelerator. If one exists in your domain, it is the incubator to get into.

  2. 2

For institutions: verify the 5-year and 8-year conditions

Five years of incubation experience and an 8-year-old host institution are hard gates.

  3. 3

    Submit at nidhi.dst.gov.in

Proposals are received throughout the year in the format on the portal.
