What this scheme actually is
BIPP is a government partnership with industry on a cost-sharing basis for research in frontier and futuristic technology areas. The defining feature is that IP ownership is retained by Indian industry — and where relevant shared with collaborating scientists. It suits companies attempting genuinely difficult science with commercial intent.
Implementing agency: BIRAC
What the scheme sets out to do
Who can apply
What you get
How to apply, step by step
- 1
Watch the two annual call windows
1 April to 15 May, and 1 September to 15 October. Proposals are submitted online only.
- 2
Decide on the consortium
Academic or national-lab partners strengthen the science but complicate the IP. Settle ownership in writing before submitting.
- 3
Structure the cost share
If you have taken a BIRAC grant before, you fund at least 30%. Evidence the source of that contribution in the proposal.
- 4
Submit through birac.nic.in and defend the science
Evaluation is technical, with commercial viability assessed alongside.

Services this usually needs
No consultant can guarantee a sanction — that decision sits with the evaluating committee, bank or incubator. We commit to an honest eligibility view, an application built to the evaluator’s format, filing inside the window and a documented follow-up cadence. That is stated in every engagement letter we sign.
