Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between BIS ISI Mark and BIS CRS?
ISI Mark is for products under mandatory IS Standards certification (appliances, cement, helmets, toys, etc.). CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme) is specifically for electronic and IT products — mobile phones, laptops, LED lights, inverters, etc. Both require BIS testing and approval.
Can a foreign manufacturer get BIS certification directly?
Yes, through the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS). The foreign factory is inspected by BIS, products are tested at Indian labs, and BIS grants the license. The manufacturer must appoint an Authorised Indian Representative (AIR) for ongoing compliance.
