What this scheme actually is

MAHIR is a joint national mission of the Ministry of Power and MNRE to identify emerging power-sector technologies and fund their indigenous research, development and demonstration at scale. It names its focus areas explicitly, which makes fit easy to assess: carbon capture and utilisation, green hydrogen for mobility, AI and automation in the power ecosystem, geothermal energy, and alternatives to lithium-ion storage.

Implementing agency: Central Power Research Institute

What the scheme sets out to do

Identify emerging technologies in the power sector
Facilitate indigenous research, development and demonstration of those technologies at scale
Enable deployment within and outside India

Who can apply

Academia, industry, startups and R&D institutions
Working in carbon capture and utilisation, green hydrogen for mobility including high-efficiency fuel cells, automation and artificial intelligence in the power ecosystem, geothermal energy, or alternatives to lithium-ion storage batteries

What you get

Financial support determined by project nature, budget requirement, infrastructure needs and research area
R&D project funding, pilot support and commercialisation facilitation
Access to the CPRI and power-sector CPSE ecosystem for demonstration

How to apply, step by step

  1. 1

Match to one of the five named technology areas

MAHIR's focus list is specific. Work outside it will not be considered, however good.

  2. 2

Track the CPRI calls for proposals

Calls are published by the Central Power Research Institute.

  3. 3

    Structure the demonstration plan

MAHIR emphasises demonstration at scale. A proposal that ends at lab validation is weaker than one with a utility or CPSE demonstration partner lined up.

  4. 4

    Deliver against project milestones

    Milestone-based release with technical review.

How Company Avenue Advisory helps

What we actually do on a MAHIR mandate

Fit assessment against the five named technology areas before you invest in a proposal
Project budgeting, financial projections and the counterpart-funding case
Demonstration-partner agreements with utilities and CPSEs
Grant accounting, utilisation certificates and project audit

No consultant can guarantee a sanction — that decision sits with the evaluating committee, bank or incubator. We commit to an honest eligibility view, an application built to the evaluator’s format, filing inside the window and a documented follow-up cadence. That is stated in every engagement letter we sign.
